UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN
SCHOOL OF PSYCHOLOGY
RESEARCH FELLOW
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a project exploring the cognitive and affective processes that underpin our sense of self, and investigate how these processes might contribute to self-memory biases and social-cognitive functioning. This will involve joining a team of researchers investigating the developmental, neural, and cognitive aspects of the self. The post holder will be responsible for research on the development of self-memory biases in early childhood and how the self referencing effect can be employed in education and learning. The main roles will involve liaising with local schools, designing studies and orchestrating experimental testing. The post holder will also be required to present project findings at major international conferences and author papers for peer reviewed journals.
Applicants must have a PhD in Psychology and a proven track record of research and publication in developmental psychology. Experience of conducting research with young children is also essential. Furthermore, a background in research on social cognition or memory is particularly desirable.
Since many of the proposed experiments are likely to be computer-based, programming experience (e.g. ePrime, Matlab,, Psyscope) is essential, and previous experience with Macintosh computers is highly desirable. Applicants must also have expertise in data handling using Excel and SPSS.
This post is funded by a grant from the European Research Council until 30 November 2012.
